Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
Merit Medical UK Limited has been measuring Scope 1 and 2 emissions across the whole Merit Medical Systems Inc Group since 2020. A number of offices with a small physical footprint have been excluded on a de minimis basis.
From 2023 Merit Medical has engaged with third-party consultants to calculate Scope 3 emissions using the spend based methodology aligned to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol’s Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. The Scope 3 emissions have been calculated for the Group as a whole and attributed to Merit Medical UK Limited where appropriate.

Emissions reduction targets
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets across the whole Merit Medical Group.
By 2030, from a baseline of 2020, we will:
- Source 50% of energy from renewable sources
- Achieve a 10% reduction in energy intensity
- Achieve a GHG emissions intensity (Scope 1& 2) reduction of 15%
These intensity metrics are indexed against revenue.
Group-level progress against these targets can be seen in the table from our 2023 Sustainability Report below:
Going forward we will monitor Merit Medical UK Limited’s individual progress towards these targets.
Carbon Reduction Projects
Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2020 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equate to a 35% reduction against the 2020 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract.
- ISO 14001 certification across Merit’s largest manufacturing sites.
- Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at applicable Merit facilities.
- Increase to 36% renewable and/or carbon free energy at our global facilities.
- ISO 50001 certification at select manufacturing sites located in the U.S. and Europe.
- Heating Ventilation Air Condition (HVAC) upgrades and efficiency measures. including temperature controls, and sub-metering.
- Movement to LED lighting across all Merit sites.
In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:
- Continue to improve HVAC and water heating efficiency.
- Continue to increase utilization of green and carbon free energy.
- Implement increased fidelity of data by adopting software reporting systems.
- Develop strategies and improvement activities to drive adoption methods to reduce scope 3 emissions.
